Broadcast journalist, writer and record breaking swimmer, Diana Nyad, is best known for being the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. Diana gained national attention and accomplished the feat at the age of 64 after several attempts. The journey between Havana and Key West took Diana 53 hours and spanned 110 miles, which included rough weather and jellyfish invested waters. Diana set records in the past including a speed world record for swimming around Manhattan in under eight hours and a distance record for a 102 mile swim from the Bahamas to Florida. Nyad has been inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. She has also earned awards like the ESPN Sports Science Newton Award for Outstanding New Limit and L.A. Sports Council’s Athlete of the Year Award. She has published books including her memoir The Other Shore, Basic Training for Women and Boss of Me: The Keyshawn Johnson Story. Diana became a sports broadcaster, reporting for broadcasts like NPR, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, Fox Sports and The New York Times. Diana has made appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and even competed in Dancing with the Stars.
