Since being named as head coach in 2004, Lovie Smith has led the Bears to three division titles, two NFC Championship game appearances, and their first Super Bowl appearance in 21 years. He was named the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year in 2005 after becoming the fastest head coach in Bears history to lead the team to a division title. Smith and his wife are active in the Chicagoland community and are co-founders of the Lovie and MaryAnne Smith Foundation (LAMAS), which helps young people further their education. They are Honorary chairs of the Ronald McDonald Capital Campaign to help build the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world in Chicago, and devote their time and support to Misericordia Home, a care community for people with mild to profound developmental disabilities. Smith is also devoted to various health related causes including diabetes awareness, early cancer detection and mental health issues.
