Jamie Burrow become known well to fans of football as NU's starting middle linebacker in 2001, two times earning Big 12 Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors (Sept. 8 and Oct. 27). The second-team All-Big 12 pick's first award followed an 11-tackle effort in a 27-10 victory over No. 17 Notre Dame, where he added a fumble recovery and a two quarterback hurries. He claimed his second award after posting a career-high 17 tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss, in a 20-10 win over the-BCS No. 1 Oklahoma. After his career-best effort against OU, Burrow was named the Bronko Nagurski National Player of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America. This added his name to the 2001 Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player-of-the-Year watch list. Burrow finished his short four-year career with 116 total tackles, even though he played his first three seasons behind All-American Carlos Polk. He added 16 career tackles for loss, including 12 as a senior with 3.5 sacks. Burrow graduated in December 2001.
