About Howie Long

Howie Long is currently best known as a lead in-studio analyst for FOX NFL Sunday broadcast team. Long has been with FOX since 1994 and was rewarded for his stellar performance on the show with an Emmy Award in 1997 for Outstanding Personality/Analyst. In addition, Long has hosted “Howie Long’s Tough Guys Show” on FOX, an awards show honoring the toughest players in the NFL. Since 2003, Long has been the voice of Westwood One’s specialty daily program 3rd and Long with Howie Long, tackling topics ranging from sports, style, and the world. Long is regarded as one of the best defensive lineman to ever play in the history of the NFL, playing his entire career with the Raiders organization, first in Oakland, then in Los Angeles. Howie was named All-Pro three times (in 1983, 1984, and 1985), second team All-Pro twice (in 1986 and 1989), and earned eight Pro Bowl selections through out his career as a Raider. Following the 1983 season, Long led the Los Angeles Raiders to victory against the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. The Raiders selected Long in the 1981 NFL draft after a successful collegiate career at Villanova University, where he earned All-East and honorable mention All-America honors as a senior. Long also was a champion boxer as an undergraduate. Howie has been the lead in many advertising campaigns and the face of several national commercials, most recently with Chevrolet. Some of the companies he has promoted in the past include Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Kraft, Campbell’s Chunky Soup and Nike. In addition, Long was the spokesman for Radio Shack, starring in commercials alongside actress Teri Hatcher. He also pursued a brief acting career as he entered into a three-film agreement with Twentieth Century Fox, appearing in Broken Arrow (1995) with John Travolta, Firestorm (1998), and 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001).
