Jim Plunkett is a former American football player who has played for the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, and Oakland Raiders. The quarterback started his career at Stanford University. Plunkett led the school to their very first Rose Bowl in 1970 as a senior. This led him to win the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Plunkett gained a lot of attention from many pro football teams for his arm strength and precision. In 1971,the New England Patriots drafted him as the first overall pick. He was the first player of Hispanic heritage to ever be picked as the first overall in the any NFL draft. Plunkett was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, but didn’t gain as much fame until he was traded to the Oakland Raiders. As a Raider, he helped the team reach two Super Bowl wins in 1981 and 1984. He retired from the sport in1986. Currently, he is an active speaker about his personal experiences in the sport.
