Mike Weir is one of the most successful Canadian golfers of all time. He has become a Canadian sports hero. As a Canadian child, Weir’s dreamed of playing professional hockey until he picked up a golf club. Mike earned money by being a caddy and pro shop worker to finally buy his own left-handed wedge club. Mike Weird helped put Canadian golf on the map. Mike Weir began his journey as a Canadian Professional golfer in 1992. At the Canada Professional Golf Tour, he won three different events. During his rookie year, Mike won the Rookie of the Year Honors in 1993 and then reached the PGA Tour in 1998. Mike won his first PGA Tour title at the 1999 Air Canada Championship. In April 2003, he won the Masters Tournament in Georgia, which is one of the four major championships. He is the first Canadian male to ever win a professional major championship. Between the years of 2001and 2005 Mike spent 110 weeks at the Official World Golf Ranking. He also launched the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids that helps support the Children’s Miracle Network.
