Former American basketball player George Karl has now made a successful career in becoming the head coach of five NBA teams. Born in Pittsburgh, California Karl signed with the San Antonio Spurs in 1973. He spent his entire professional career with the Spurs, but in 1978 he retired from playing the sport and became the Spurs’ assistant coach. He continued coaching after the Spurs, but decided to become head coach. After coaching for the CBA Montana Golden Nuggets, he became the head coach of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Golden State Warriors. After various other coaching jobs, Karl gained the most success when he joined the Denver Nuggets as head coach. Karl became the 12th coach in NBA history ever to win 800 games. By 2008, he led the Nuggets to victory and reached a coaching career high of 900 game wins. In 2013, he was given the first NBA Coach of the Year Award.
